Equivalent outcomes in two independent investigations, including a comparison of reading and listening modes in Experiment 2, reinforces the reliability of the conclusions drawn. Higher education institutions worldwide have experienced an alarming rise in English's global dominance. While there are consistent attempts to utilize indigenous tongues in education, English continues to secure its position as the dominant global language of instruction, seemingly unassailable. Within this paper, the sociolinguistic challenges engendered by the hegemony of the English language are addressed. Globalization and internationalization collaborate with neo-colonial and neoliberal strategies to engender a global class whose economic support is essential to the continued ambitions and survival of English imperial power. These arguments derive their strength from the lived experiences in the Middle East and North Africa, along with the valuable lessons from Eastern and Southern Africa. Through a critical lens, the paper examines the rapid expansion of English medium instruction in global higher education, emphasizing its urgent necessity. Globalized and internationalized education's rhetoric is examined to find its inherent problems and limitations. Subsequently, the paper offers conclusions about epistemic access within the burgeoning knowledge economies. Knowledge access for the majority is asserted to be hindered by the use of English as a medium of instruction, ensuring the economic strength of the privileged few.
A unique aspect of military service lies in the powerful obligation to serve one's country and the courageous willingness to defend fellow human beings. The civilian employment of army reservists is a key factor in their short-term military commitments, whether for training or missions. This study fills a gap in the literature concerning the effects of prosocial motivation on the meaning attributed to military service, specifically examining direct, mediated, and moderated relationships within the context of reservist experiences. This study aimed to investigate the direct and indirect connections between prosocial motivation and the meaning derived from military service. The former is evaluated as a direct consequence, in contrast to the latter, which involves the influence of role adaptation within the military, the soldiers' self-belief, and the socio-moral climate of the military institution—which renders military service a distinguished activity.
A quantitative method, hierarchical regression analysis, was used in this study to reveal direct, moderating, and mediating relationships involving the studied variables. The analysis employed repeated measures on data gathered from a sample of 375 soldiers from the Lithuanian Armed Forces' Active Reserve, collected in one military unit before and after training exercises. To determine the impact of military service on meaning, the following instruments were utilized: the Occupational Self-Efficacy Scale, the Prosocial Motivation Scale, the Motivation at Work Scale, and the Socio-Moral Climate Scale. Different yet intertwined channels of prosocial motivation play a role in the military service of reservists.
Reserve soldiers with elevated prosocial motivation, as shown by the direct pathway, demonstrated a higher degree of meaning derived from their military service. EPZ020411 The indirect pathway suggested that the role of fit was a mediator for this relationship. From the perspective of the latter, we observed that prosocial motivation significantly predicted both role fitting and the perception of purpose in military service. In conclusion, the proposed models exhibited the moderated-mediation effects of self-efficacy and socio-moral climate. The results provide the foundation for building more effective training for reservists.
The direct pathway's investigation concluded that reserve soldiers, possessing greater prosocial motivation, experienced a higher level of meaning in their service. Role fit was found to mediate this relationship through the indirect pathway's influence. Building upon the previous point, we found a strong correlation between prosocial motivation and both the alignment of roles with personal values and the perceived significance of military service. The moderated-mediation role of self-efficacy and socio-moral climate was confirmed within the context of our suggested models. The data gathered enables a re-evaluation and improvement of reservist training programs.
Considering technology's increasing role in shaping our relationships, we propose that the sublime is finding less space in product design, which often prioritizes commercial and transactional aims such as speed and efficiency. A novel product category is proposed to encourage experiences that are more immersive and meaningful, specifically those incorporating the elements of liminality, transcendence, and personal transformation. A novel conceptual framework, accompanied by a three-stage design approach, is introduced in this paper to investigate narrative participation in design via abstractions for nurturing, sustaining, and intensifying more profound emotions. From a theoretical perspective, we examine the ramifications and propose practical product applications of the model.
Examining user intent to use new interaction technologies, especially interaction mode and virtual image, within autonomous vehicles (AVs), this study investigated the effects of psychological needs (competence, autonomy, and relatedness) proposed by self-determination theory (SDT), along with automation trust.
The psychological motivation behind user interaction with AV technology is the core focus of this investigation. Self-report measures about two interaction technologies were collected from 155 drivers using a structured questionnaire, followed by an analysis of the collected data.
The results suggested a direct link between users' intentions and their perception of competence, autonomy, and relatedness, based on SDT, and their trust in automation, jointly explaining at least 66% of the variation in behavioral intention. Predictive components' contribution to behavioral intention varies based on the interactive technology, coupled with the already documented results. The interaction mode's behavioral intention was substantially influenced by relatedness and competence, but the virtual image had no discernible effect.
Predicting user intentions to use AV interaction technology effectively requires, as demonstrated by these findings, the differentiation of distinct interaction types.
The significance of these findings lies in their support for the need to differentiate between various AV interaction technologies when anticipating user adoption intentions.
This descriptive analysis of Australian businesses aimed to evaluate the contributions of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship in converting innovation intent into tangible performance. The Australian Bureau of Statistics' 2020-2021 business innovation summary data formed the basis of its analysis. The study's descriptive analysis compared performance growth from the 2019-2020 financial year to the 2020-2021 financial year, specifically with reference to the period of the COVID-19 crisis. Innovation-active firms demonstrated greater profitability and productivity than non-innovation-active firms, as established by the research. Company size and performance were intrinsically linked, with the largest businesses demonstrating the strongest results, followed closely by medium-sized and then small businesses. Stressful life events (SLE) and alexithymia frequently contribute to the underlying psychological vulnerability shared by eating disorders (EDs) and behavioral addictions. The study seeks to delineate the prevalence and latent typologies of participants, distinguished by sex, considering their risk of developing EDs, gambling disorder (GD), alcohol and/or drug abuse, and compulsive buying (CB). In the second instance, the research project investigated the relationship between alexithymia and prior SLE experiences and their influence on group membership.
University students and their social networks significantly shaped the composition of the sample. The sample included 352 young adults between the ages of 18 and 35; of these, the percentage breakdown was 778% female and 222% male.
A review of the sample data revealed that alcohol, EDs, CB, drugs, and GD were, in descending order of prevalence, the most frequently observed disorders. Moreover, latent class analyses were applied to categorize individuals according to their risk of suffering from EDs or addictions, distinguishing by sex. Three key groups emerged: 'Men with addiction struggles,' 'Healthy women,' and 'Women affected by eating disorders.' To conclude, latent class analysis served to determine the disparities in SLE and alexithymia levels. The group of men with addictions and women with eating disorders showed a higher prevalence of alexithymia and SLE symptoms than the healthy female control group. Although the group of women with eating disorders (class 3) displayed a notable increase in stress and alexithymia symptoms compared to the other two groups.
